Established a DEI Working Group
A voluntary team of employees who are passionate about driving change and moving the business forward by inspiring others to be more inclusive in their work.
Lose It! is committed to creating an environment and culture where all are included. One of the values of our company is to be inclusive and we aim to incorporate this ideal into the work we do each day. We know that when diverse perspectives, experiences and identities are included we create a stronger culture for our employees and are able to make a better product for our members.
We approach our work with humility knowing that we won’t have all the answers and leverage our networks, members and resources where we need to ensure we have the insights necessary to complete our work responsibly. Our success is dependent on all voices being valued and included in the conversation.
“I'm very excited by all the progress we're making on Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion at Lose It!. This roadmap reflects two of our most cherished values: humility and transparency. We acknowledge that we can do better on DEI through constructive action and we're eager to share our work with all of our stakeholders.”
- Patrick Wetherille, CEO
Our Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (DEI) strategy helps us align and prioritize our work with purpose. Our DEI working group, led by voluntary employees who are passionate about driving change and inspiring others, meets weekly to help keep DEI initiatives a priority and turn employee ideas into practice for the company, the community and our users. Each member of the team sits within a different function in the business and consistently asks the question, “could we make this more inclusive?” Asking this question in the planning and decision making process consistently allows us to evaluate our work through a DEI lens.

As we’ve grown we’ve seen the need for additional support to help build and grow our people strategy and business foundation. The areas of focus include: hiring and selection, policy and enforcement, standardized performance management processes, training and development and employee relations.
We implemented a regular Employee Engagement Survey and created an anonymous communication channel for our employees so we could receive feedback on how we are doing, understand areas of strength and areas that still need improvement. Feedback collected in 2020 helped us create our roadmap for 2021.
We added an annual stipend to our benefits that can be used towards a donation to 501(c)3 organization(s) of the employees’ choice. A few examples of where employees have chosen to donate this year include: The Loveland Foundation, Black Girls Code, BAGLY, Massachusetts Bail Fund, and many more.
We added employee and new hire training including Unconscious Bias(She+ Geeks Out), Inclusion (NeuroLeadership Institute) and are building a custom library including policies, manager guides and performance management.
We have refreshed our policies including an updated EEO statement, Anti-harassment Policy, Code of Conduct and Progressive Disciplinary Policy to name a few.
As part of our DEI work, we refreshed content on all of our job postings and pages, updated our New Hire Orientation to welcome new employees and expanded our networking and recruiting partners to a more diverse group of resources.
Every employee had a hand in refreshing our new values. We retained what is in our DNA and what makes us great and we made room for what is important to us in our growth. At Lose It! we are: Purpose Driven, Humble, Inclusive, Transparent, Owners and Results Oriented.
