There are moments in our lives when we need to find balance and take the time to reset, rejuvenate, and revitalize. That can mean implementing a new healthy habit, consistently logging a week’s worth of meals, or finding inspiration in someone’s story to start your journey to better health.
With over 50 million Lose It! members worldwide, we have hundreds of personal stories to share when it comes to weight loss, nutrition, wellness, and exercise.
Molly’s story is one we found incredibly inspiring.
After Losing 131 Pounds, Molly Knew She Could Pursue Her Dream of Attending Nursing School
Molly, a grandmother in her fifties, successfully lost 131 pounds in a year and a half and took control of her life after years of “being out of control when it came to food.” She decided that enough was enough when she weighed in at 381 pounds — her heaviest — and was having difficulty breathing when walking. She took her doctor’s advice and tried calorie counting (something she had never done before) with the Lose It! app.
“I realized that if I didn’t do something, I would not see my children get married and meet my grandchildren. So I committed to start tracking every day.”
Gradually, the pounds fell off, and Molly felt better both physically and mentally. She now has a new habit of planning what she’ll be eating. Since she frequently pre-tracks her meals, she loves that she can easily search for and find her favorite foods in the app, even when dining out. “I was impressed with the food database in the app, and if I wanted to eat out, I could generally find that food in the database, which was wonderful,” she says.
“Losing weight has given me the confidence to reach other goals in my life,” Molly adds. At 52, she decided to attend nursing school and is now a full-fledged nursing student. She says the organizational skills she gained while dutifully logging in the Lose It! app have helped her to succeed in nursing school. “I realized that if I can lose weight, then I can do anything, because losing weight is the hardest thing I’ve ever had to do,” she explains.
Since using the app, she has learned that eating healthier has kept her mental health intact. These days she is full of self-confidence and energy, and is a happier and healthier person overall.
What’s next on her plate?
“Incorporating exercise is the next goal in my journey. I have a treadmill to get me through the winter, and my doctor and I have a goal weight that I’m on track to reach,” Molly says.
