From Junk Food Runs to Making Veggies Fun: How Hannah Lost 100 Pounds in a Year

Hannah’s journey began when she was laid off from her job and turned to food to cope with her feelings of defeat. She was caught in the emotional eating trap for years, but decided enough was enough and downloaded Lose It!, ready for a fresh start.

Taking it one step at a time through small and sustainable changes, Hannah began replacing fast food with fresh vegetables and swapping takeout for home cooking. Tracking what she ate on the app was something she seamlessly wove into her day and became part of her healthy lifestyle. No longer afraid to take up space, Hannah became a regular fixture at the yoga studio. As she shed weight, losing an astounding 100 pounds in a year, she gained a new employer — Lose It! — joining our Customer Care team in 2021.

Being both a member and an employee means that Hannah is uniquely positioned to practice what she preaches. She empathizes and guides members through the ups and downs of the weight loss journey, all while providing actionable advice on how they can get the most out of the app.

Josh’s Journey: Being Honest With Himself Was the First Step Toward Losing 137 Pounds

Josh, a businessman from Palo, Iowa, is a husband in his forties who now feels like he’s in his twenties again after losing 137 pounds (and counting) by diligently tracking his foods in the Lose It! app. 

After years of living a sedentary lifestyle, Josh found that he had gotten to be 415 pounds. His busy job required extensive travel and eating on the go, and he didn’t prioritize exercise. He admits that during this period of his life, he “felt very sick” from both a physical and mental health standpoint. When his health coach suggested downloading Lose It!, he decided it was time to be honest with himself and start logging everything he ate.

Josh loves the “gentle reminders” that the app gives him to make healthy decisions and be mindful about what he eats. The barcode scanner has become a tool he “cannot live without,” and he appreciates the simplicity of “just telling the news” on Lose It!. After he began to see his eating patterns and habits and understand the nutritional value of foods, combined with daily exercise, the “pounds started to come off.” New healthy habits like walking every day and hiking with his wife are also part of his lifestyle now, and he intends to continue using the app in his maintenance phase.

His journey not only transformed his body, but his mindset as well. A happier and healthier person, Josh says that his relationship with his wife also became stronger as a result of the positive changes he made in his life. “Going for a walk with my wife wasn’t a thing before, but it is now,” he says. “We’re spending more time together.” His professional life has also improved: “As a business owner, prioritizing my health has made me better at what I do.” With much to celebrate, Josh is looking forward to the future with optimism and has a great appreciation for how far he has come.
