Looking to cut back on red meat, but still enjoy the taste of a juicy summertime burger? We think this recipe will be the perfect solution for you! Subbing ground turkey for ground beef reduces the calories and saturated fat content while increasing protein. In addition, ground turkey pairs well with many flavors, and you can even throw some chopped veggies in there (we won’t tell).
Here are some tips to get that summer burger just right:
- Don’t add salt too early. Salt removes water and can make your burgers a little more dry and tough. Instead, wait until just before the patties hit the grill.
- Refrigerate for 30 minutes. This helps prevent the burger from falling apart when it cooks on the grill. Plus, it gives the flavors more time to marinate together.
- Rest after cooking. During cooking, all the juices are being pushed to the middle of your patty, but by letting it rest (at least 5 minutes), the proteins can relax a bit, allowing the juices to more evenly distribute in the patty.
