We’ve heard from our readers and know that many of you are focusing on healthy snacking and reducing carbohydrate content. We had Dietitian Anna take a trip through the grocery aisles to find you some new and exciting products to add to your cart.
While these five snacks have nutrition content aligned with a keto lifestyle, there’s no reason they can’t be enjoyed by anyone. After all, we can all use some new snack ideas. Keep reading to see what she recommends munching on during your next snack break.
1. Olives
This Mediterranean staple is keto-friendly, heart-healthy, and great for reducing inflammation. We love these portable to-go cups by Musco Family Olive Co and convenient packages by Oloves. Between the two brands, you can select from green, black, or kalamata olives. The carb count is naturally low in olives, usually between 1-2 grams per serving. In addition, they provide heart-healthy monounsaturated fats. Whether you snack on them plain or add them to your favorite dish, olives are a smart snack choice to keep in mind.
2. Parmesan Crisps
Cheese lovers, you’re going to be excited about this one. It’s no secret that cheese is a natural fit for the low-carb lifestyle due to its nutritional profile consisting of fat and protein. But cheese is traditionally soft and creamy. Could there be a way to make cheese … crunchy? In fact, there is. Que the parmesan crisps. Companies like Parm Crisps and Whisps have created a crunchy cracker-like product out of parmesan cheese that contains only 1 gram of total carbohydrate per serving. You can purchase them in bulk bags or individual bags. It makes a great snack option as is, or crumble them up and use them in place of breadcrumbs or croutons in your favorite entree.
3. Creamy Dips with Vegetables
In previous diet culture, creamy dips were known for being higher in calories and often avoided, but times have changed. With the focus being on carbohydrates, many are more focused on limiting sugar to keep the carbohydrate count low. While there are numerous creamy dips to choose from, one of our favorite lines to purchase is Sir Kensingtons which offers four fabulous flavors. Choose from buffalo ranch, classic ranch, caesar, and avocado oil ranch – all of which are delicious, sugar-free, and contain 1 gram of total carbohydrate or less per serving. All the dips are dairy-free which is another perk, especially for those with sensitivities or intolerances.
4. Meat Sticks
Best recognized at the checkout lines at Trader Joe’s, these meat sticks by Chomps are a convenient snack that’s high on protein and low on carbs. They’re shelf-stable, which makes them a great option to keep on hand to satisfy that snack craving whenever it hits. Made of grass-fed beef, free-range antibiotic-free turkey, or grass-fed venison, each stick contains around 9-10 grams of protein and 0-2 grams of total carbohydrate. This small family-owned business is trying to make healthy snacking easier, and in our eyes, they’re doing just that.
5. Yogurt Cultured Dairy Snacks
Ratio foods is making yogurt a keto-friendly option once again. They offer eight delicious flavors to choose from, including blueberry, peach, mixed berry, cherry, mango, coconut, strawberry, and vanilla to keep those taste buds happy. The milk has been ultrafiltered, which reduces the carbohydrate content down to 2 grams and keeps the protein high at 15 grams per container. Avocado oil is the fat of choice for this brand; it has been added to the yogurt to boost the fat content up to 15 grams. Like traditional yogurts, you’ll find cultures in this one to promote gut-friendly benefits.
The Bottom Line
