Meet Brandon, a 4th year medical student in Alabama who lost 120 lbs by tracking and educating himself on healthy food and exercise habits!

Brandon Hamm

From: Anniston, Alabama

Occupation: 4th Year Medical Student

Start weight: 363lbs | Current weight: 243lbs | Pounds lost: 120lbs!

Brandon’s epic weight loss story.

I was a former high school football player and gained weight in college due to overindulgence of food paired with inactivity. When I decided to try Lose It! and start losing weight, I set a goal date and have been fairly consistent since March 3rd.

I started by educating myself on calories, macronutrients and exercise routines for a healthier lifestyle. I did it alone, but I’ve always received words of encouragement from friends, family and colleagues.

The most emotional moment was when I hit the “100 lbs lost” mark several years ago.

made a vow to myself to maintain a healthier lifestyle and to motivate others around me as well. It’s the best decision I ever made.

What did a typical day of eating and/or exercising look like before your weight loss? What does it look like for you now?

Before I lost weight, I was consuming fast food 3x a day. I once calculated each meal to be above 1700 calories, and I didn’t exercise.

Now my go-to meal is chicken breast, sweet potatoes and broccoli. I still enjoy other foods I love, but I eat in moderation and practice portion control.

I exercise 3-4 times a week, depending on how busy the week is.

Brandon’s advice:

  1. Moderation is key.
  2. Even if you don’t feel like going to the gym, try to go anyways. Chances are you’ll feel so much better once your workout is complete.
  3. If you’re going out to eat, look at the menu ahead of time and pick out your meal in advance.
  4. Drink a lot of water and stay hydrated, it’s important for weight loss.
  5. Keep healthy snacks on hand as well to keep your appetite at bay.
