Erin’s epic weight loss story.
I’ve struggled with weight my whole life. I was a chubby kid, but then at 17 I became unintentionally underweight due to not taking care of myself and being too busy to eat full meals. This continued until I was 21, when I got a job at a bakery. From then I ballooned to over 200 pounds, eating large portions and unhealthy foods for every meal.
A year ago I got tired of hating what I saw in the mirror, so I started going on Reddit to read about how other people lose weight. I started with keto, but it didn’t work as well as I’d wanted. I finally decided to just calorie count and exercise. I was much more successful!
I started using Lose It! on July 23rd, 2017 after I heard about it on Reddit. I had really only two people in my life that I could talk to about it, so I relied heavily on social media to read others stories and to be there for each other. It took a year of ups and downs but I lost exactly 52 lbs in 52 weeks.
I feel like an entirely different person sometimes, but mostly I just feel better.
What did a typical day of eating and/or exercising look like before your weight loss? What does it look like for you now?
Before I lost weight, my diet revolved around carbs and I did no exercise. I would eat a big bowl of potatoes or make greasy breakfast tacos for breakfast. Then, I would have a panini or Mac and cheese for lunch. At dinner I would cook some pasta or fried rice.
Now I eat small breakfasts, usually some fruit and an almond milk latte. For lunch I’ll have some lean meat and veggies, usually sautéed together. My dinners are usually my largest meals where I’ll have a giant salad, a flatbread pizza, or my favorite, sushi! I work out 4-5x a week, with a mix between cardio and light weight lifting.
Erin’s advice:
- Don’t give up if you have an off day. Tomorrow is a fresh start.
- Exercise isn’t essential in losing weight but it definitely helps and after awhile you just feel better.
- You don’t need any fancy diets that cost money to do, just count calories and you can eat whatever you want!
